The Mooseum District Cow was the brainchild of Hollomans collaborator, Katy Butterwick. Butterwick thought it would be fun to have a cow for children to paint on Museum District Day. The cow was covered with simplified drawings of the museums facades and other decorative elements in a color-book style. It was placed in front of the Contemporary Arts Museum and children were invited to come complete the cow by painting in the shapes.
Holloman explains, As a very young child, I loved coloring books. When I filled them up, I would make my own, and fill those up too. I never made a connection between what I was doing and making art until my family moved to Houston and I saw the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston for the first time. It is the hope of Katy and myself that children, visiting the museums on Museum District Day some perhaps for the first time-will work on the cow and realize the same connection. Making art is important. It fosters a creative process that encompasses all facets of daily living. It is what gives the human community its soul.
