Moos-Cowrade Ball Cow has two sides, each telling a story, the downtown skyline on one side of the cow painted in shades of blue and green. Three of Renoirs paintings are painted on the other side. Mixed into the image Renoir created more than 100 years ago are depictions of Houstonians today. The cow is masked and is stepping out to celebrate one of the many Houston events.
French impressionist Renoir was an inspiration to artist Marilyn Guerinot. Guerinot explains, Renoirs paintings entitled Le Mouciw De La Gallette, The Luncheon of the Boating Party and Dance a Bougival are combined with contemporary figures and events that represent Houston happenings, an astronaut, a doctor, Houston livestock and rodeo. I hoped to celebrate the diversity of our Houston community. It is the diversity which makes our city outstanding.
