Title: Moo-iro
Location: Chase Tower: Capitol and Milam on the plaza
Artist: Jose, Christy, Pam, Nick & Gabe Dumlao
Sponsor: Prime Asset Management Owner Chase Tower

Moo-iro is patterned after the artwork of the great Spanish surrealist painter Joan Miro. Because Miro’s work is very extensive and covers various phases and styles, two designs were chosen. One side features Miro’s work during the late 30’s and 40’, involving overlapping surreal shapes and contrasting colors. The other side is designed from Miro’s Constellation series-very cosmic and surreal. A triangular cowbell hangs on Moo-iro and sculpture of 3 birds hover over her back and this matches the grand Miro sculpture displayed outside Chase Tower.

The inspiration and theme of Moo-iro is children. With elementary shapes of birds and people and spiders and fish on one side and stars, moons, and planets on the other side, one would think a kindergarten art student did the painting. And the bright primary colors used reflect a playful atmosphere. One of the main subject shows a child being awakened by a bird. Notice the big eyes, Moo-ira is a happy cow.

This cow was sold in the live auction conducted by Sotheby's on December 6, 2001 at the Wortham Center.
