Title: Moogritte
Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Visitor's Center: Fannin and Binz
Artist: Linda Jayne Schmer
Sponsor: Betsy and Hughes Abell

It is a play on Rene Magritte’s painting called “Carte Blanche”. In Carte Blanche, a woman is riding a golden horse that is woven in and out of a forest. Moogritte is actually a forest with a golden cow woven in and out of it. A cow within a cow.

Schmer states, “I hope that people who see the cow will enjoy simply looking at it and will take the time to feel puzzled and curious. If they do no know who Magritte is, I hope they will visit the Menil Museum’s collection of his works.”

This cow was sold in the live auction conducted by Sotheby's on December 6, 2001 at the Wortham Center.
