Exploring the Mooniverse was designed by a group of fourth grade students and painted by nearly all the students at Ashford Elementary School, along with the Ashford teachers. There was also a recent college graduate who helped with the finishing touches. She is painted a rich purple to represent space. The Milky Way is evident as well as planet Earth, the sun, moon, stars, comet and some made-up planets. The cow sports an alien and UFO in addition to the Astrodome adorned with fireworks. The bovine is also branded with the Texas state shape. The artists intent was to point out the beauty of space and tie space into Houstons sports teams and famous artwork (Van Goghs Starry Night).
This remarkable statue can now be yours. So, be part of the fun, and help an incredible cause along the way. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Texas Childrens Hospital Building for Children capital campaign and will help fund the expansion of the Texas Childrens Cancer Center.
