Each summer the artist vacationed with her family on an island in northern Michigan. The trip went from the land with water interspersed to mainly water with islands. Ellington says, “I wanted to embellish a cow that reflected this sense of taking a journey both mental and physical within a landscape setting.” The talented artist has always admired Japanese and Chinese scroll paintings of landscapes, and this shows in Cowscape.
