Gum-Bull Machine is painted to look like a transparent cow-shaped figure filled with brilliantly colored gumballs. The artists use of shading and strong highlights make each gumball appear to be round and ready to roll out of the spout. Metallic silver paint was used to create the turning level, coin clot and spout for the gumballs to exit the machine. The cast shadow of the turning lever gives it a three dimensional effect. A nostalgic five-cent sticker is boldly displayed next to the money slot.
The artist says, My four-year-old daughters fascination with gumball machines inspired the design. Her entire face lights up with delight as she admires the colorful treats inside the machine. I wanted this cow to provoke that same feeling to its viewers, young and old.
