Location: River Oaks Shopping Center: West Gray and McDuffie
Artist: Judy Breitenbach
Madilyn Stein
Sponsor: Weingarten Realty
River Oaks Shopping Center

This bovine truly is cultured! The Cultured Cow enjoys the ballet, the symphony, the theater, and professional sports. She is wearing a diamond tiara, toe shoes, a tutu, and a “Phantom of the Opera” mask. Her butterfly symbolizes “Madam Butterfly” and the yellow rose symbolizes both Gypsy Rose Lee and the Yellow Rose of Texas. She even plays the saxaphone! Artist Judy Breitenbach states, “There is so much stress in our daily life, I hope people will see the cow and say…. How Fun! How Udderly Funny and it puts a big, big smile on their face.”

Breitenbach’s love for art began as a child. She graduated from Washington University, then spent 31/2 years at Maryville College Art Department. The last semester the artist chose to study with NY sculptor David Rabinowitch. Another high light of Breitenbach’s art studies was a scholarship to work with Beverly Pepper at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Breitenbach shows her work in many exhibitions and has won awards in juried shows.

This cow was sold in Flight 3 of the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that ran from December 12 - 18, 2001.
