Title: The Cow Jumped Over the Moon
Location: Sam Houston Statue: Hermann Park at Montrose and Fannin
Artist: Elisa Alvarado
Sponsor: Anadarko Petroleum

The popular Mother Goose rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle is celebrated in this piece by artist Elsa Alvarado. The entire body of the cow is painted with a bright whimsical design that depicts the popular rhyme, and the cow’s head and back are painted with a scene of the sky as it turns from dust to night. Shooting stars represent the motion of the cow herself jumping over the moon. Having jumped over the moon, the cow lands in a grassy meadow where the other cast of characters are found.

Elisa Alvarado is a native Texan. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Applied Design and Visual Arts from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Her primary mediums are paintings in acrylic and mixed media sculpture. Her work has been exhibited nationally.

This cow was sold in Flight 4 of the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that ran from December 15 - 21, 2001.
