The Texas Children’s Cow has 181 children’s faces painted onto the cow in areas which the artist refers to as “cowspots.” Many of the children are/were patients of Texas Children’s Hospital, and for them I used photographs. Some were the relatives and friends of sponsors, Barbara and Temple Webber. Eve explains, “Many of the children were passersby – I wanted to truly represent our multicultural city. Their joyful, hopeful faces represent what the Texas Children’s Hospital is all about: hope for their future.”
In 1983, Eve painted a large mural in pastel for Texas Children’s Hospital. It included 51 children, a dog and a cat. (4th floor, West Wing) This was the inspiration for the cow design. Eve admits creating the cow, “was a labor of love. I met many wonderful people and I would like to thank all those who posed for me and added their joy and happy faces to the design.”
